Beacon Hill Bike Park

Plans for Sekani Bike Park are in full development. This spring, City Parks assigned Mike Aho, the outdoor recreation director for Parks, as the Sekani site manager. Mike has been mountain biking since before suspension bikes were invented, and is a huge supporter of the bike park concept.

Camp Sekani Park is the official name for the area commonly called Beacon, accessed off of Upriver Drive. No motorized vehicles are allowed in the park, and at this time only FTTRC is authorized to do trail work, build new trails or any structures within the park. We'd love to have your help!!!

Much of the land surrounding Camp Sekani is private property. Please be respectful.

The bike park will be a sub-area of the larger Beacon Hill Project Regardless of how things go with the BHP, City Parks is going forward with the development of Camp Sekani for a bike park and other outdoors recreation. Future projects in addition to the bike park will be the redevelopment of the archery range, and an outdoor education facility.

Over the course of the last two years, the FTTRC has gone before the Park Lands committee several times to keep them up to date on club activities, and has received nothing but positive response to club activities.

  • Avista has donated a huge truckload of retired cedar poles specifically to be used for bike park structures. Work on a ladder line near the bottom of the downhill course is in progress.
  • " A bike park design team has been meeting to develop plans for phase 1, 2 and more of park development. As much as we'd like to just build a bunch of cool stuff right now, Parks requires planning.
  • Phase 1 will be a beginner skills area, located on the lower east end of the park. It will include slick rock lines, plus teeters, ladders, and other stunts. Intermediate skills will also be added. Parks wants to see development of lower ability items as there is a lot of advanced features already. The phase one will be the first part of the park structures plan to be built out.
  • KONA grant - we received a grant of $1000 to rebuild the Leap of Faith (completed), the ladder on the downhill course (completed) and a new teeter on the Kessel Run trails. KONA is a huge supporter of bike parks and freeriding, and we are proud to have received it.
  • Before any more new items can be constructed, the following projects need to be completed: the Kona grant items, the cedar ladder course, and a small bridge on the new singletrack built by the trail care crew this summer. This will give us some beginner features, some intermediate features, and an advanced level ladder line.
  • Trailheads: There are several locations under consideration for a trailhead with facilities such as parking, restroom, and kiosk. We are looking at potentially funding this trail head with grant monies.
  • Kiosks - The new kiosk for the Beacon area is completed. It is located in Camp Sekani at the bottom of the Downhill course
